Baking Technique Segments for eHow.com

Hi! So excited to finally share a little more about the project I worked on with eHow.com. I was fortunate enough to get in contact with Demand Media Studios, who happened to be looking for a baking expert to be an on-air talent (their words not mine :) .

First I had a conference call with my producer Andy and came up with a project based on what their needs were. I chose 10 titles that all pertained to baking which I could apply to my business and website (of course). All of the recipes that we prepared were gluten free, however not vegan because they wanted traditional frosting recipes made with butter and milk. They can all be easily modified to make them vegan as well.

It was an interesting experience for me because I have never filmed anything that focused only on me! I was a bit nervous at first but my producer and filmmaker Aaron was super nice and patient and helped make me feel at ease.

Posing with my producer/film maker

There was a lot of pre-shoot prep on my part. First of all the segments were filmed in my home kitchen so needless to say there was a lot of cleaning going on! Then because it’s me, everything had to be color coordinated right down to my nail polish, hello!!  Recipes were written up, ingredients were purchased, cooking tools were purchased and styled, etc.

For the day of filming my good friend who is an amazing make-up artist came over and did my makeup! She did a fabulous job of recreating the 50’s era vintage look I was going for. She got me camera ready while Aaron set up all the equipment, microphones and lighting (lots and lots of lighting). He took some sample shots to make sure everything was lining up properly and then I got miked up! It’s amazing how long it takes to shoot segments that total about less than one hour!

Doing My Thing

You can tell I wasn’t quite at ease but each segment got easier. I promise to remember to smile more and slow down when I talk ( I am a fast talker by nature).  I will get the opportunity to practice more because I am scheduled to begin production on another segment this week! Yay! This time it will be all gluten free recipes, which of course suits me perfectly!

Thank you for all your support and sweet words on the segments. I truly appreciate it! Make sure to go check out the  eHow.com video baking technique segments (gulp) and let them know how much you enjoyed them! I will be setting links up to each segment on my website as well.
